In Kalmar Castle’s winter exhibition, Miniatures: A World of Detail, creativity and artistry meet an almost dizzying level of patience. Here, visitors can discover cinematic worlds and imaginative settings, alongside models that preserve memories, places and stories from the past. The materials and expressions vary, but they all share the same careful attention to detail and a passion for creating.
Miniatures is a group exhibition featuring several miniature makers, many with connections to Kalmar and the surrounding area. The exhibition includes Kalmar Castle built in LEGO, well-known buildings from Kalmar recreated by Kalmar Model Railway Club, model houses inspired by traditional cottages from Småland, miniature Volvo cars, and much more.
Miniatures have a special ability to stir emotions. For many of us, the small scale evokes personal memories from childhood. At the same time, the exhibition has a distinctly contemporary perspective. In a world characterised by a fast pace and constant impressions, miniatures ask something different of us. They invite us to come closer, slow down and really look.
