Maja with friends is a play-exhibition for young children and their families. Here they can discover the environments found in Lena Anderson’s beloved books about Maja, Linnea, Storm-Stina, Little Hedgehog, and their friends. The exhibition will be on display 7 May – 5 November 2017.

In the exhibition the children can help Maja harvest carrots, build things using Storm-Stina’s windswept flotsam from the beach, or why not crawl inside the bark hut of Maja’s oak tree. Perhaps, her imaginary friends will also visit! At Little Hedgehog’s, the bakery is filled with colorful pastries, where parents may be served a cup of coffee while taking in the beauty of Lena Anderson’s framed original illustrations. There is also a pillow corner where the children can sit down and take part of the books, as well as listen to Maja’s alphabet songs.

Lena Anderson is one of our best beloved illustrators of children’s books. In her stories about Maja, Linnea, Little Hedgehog, Mollan and Storm-Stina, she has created her own world of watercolor imagery, with focus on the joys of nature and exploration. She often lets imagination and pedagogy intertwine, and helps the children learn the alphabet, time, and become curious about such things as farming and the changing of the seasons, as well as art. Her books have been translated into many languages and people read Lena’s books in more than 30 countries.

The play-exhibition was produced by Kalmar Castle in collaboration with Lena Anderson and L&L Bildibok AB.
