Kalmar Castle traces its origins back to the 12th century. It was here that the Kalmar Union was signed in 1397, and it was already during the 16th century and the time of the Vasa kings that the castle acquired its current design.
Kalmar's most old-fashioned sight worth seeing has largely remained unchanged since 1592. But there is still plenty to discover! Join our exciting ghost tours, or visit the dungeons with a guide. See our permanent exhibitions, that tell the stories of the Kalmar Union, the Kalmar War, or the time of the Vasa kings. You can also participate in any of the numerous events that take place here throughout the year.
